Ubuntu - Feisty Fawn

April 20th, 2007 by teemow

Since yesterday the latest version of Ubuntu is released. Ubuntu 7.04 aka the Feisty Fawn comes with the default integration of the network-manager applet, automatic codec download, restricted driver manager, apache 2.2, php 5.2.1 and all the latest in open source software. Ubuntu’s servers and their mirrors had been quite busy yesterday.

With Feisty there is an effort to create a multimedia version of ubuntu called ubuntu studio. The wiki doesn’t have that much information, but if you have a standard feisty installation there are some new packages in your repositories.
The packages ubuntustudio-audio, ubuntustudio-audio-plugins, ubuntustudio-graphics and ubuntustudio-video let you install the multimedia software of your choice. There is also a new low latency kernel. Just install linux-lowlatency, but do not remove your standard linux-generic kernel until you are sure that the new kernel works flawlessly.

Have you seen the LinuxMCE video? This is how your living room entertainment will become with latest linux software. LinuxMCE is also based on ubuntu and pluto.

My test boxes are looking forward to see Gutsy Gibbon soon.
