Switched to dapper

May 19th, 2006 by teemow

Last week I switched my machines to the latest ubuntu version dapper drake 6.06 which is still beta, but coming out in june. It was pretty easy to upgrade from breezy since the latest installer now upgrades to new releases. Run this command in your terminal:

gksudo “update-manager -d”

So finally after one year beagle and the deskbar-applet are up and running flawlessly. Nice!

I also managed to setup Xgl and compiz on my desktop (nvidia geforce). Thanks to Zeroconf Banshee and Rhythmbox are sharing music with itunes and vice versa. The new power and network managers are really nice to have.

The new gEdit looks very promising. I tried to switch, but I still miss some features (Syntax highlighting is bad, tab folding is missing). I think I have to wait for the next gtksourceview release. There will be a new syntax highlighting engine. But the snippets are awesome. I merge the php and hmtl snippets and made some for cakephp and it worked great. This would increase my productivity a lot.

There is lots of other new stuff.
Thanks to all the Ubuntu coders, its a great distro.

I will look up some of the howtos and threads in the ubuntu forums I’ve used later. Feel free to ask.
