No Software Patents

… at least in Europe. The news is spreading fast. The European parliament voted 648 to 14 with 18 abstentions against the legislation. This is really good news, legal software patents harm innovation in a dangerous way. Big players would threaten small companies with their patents and also the open source community would be in a lot more trouble (see mplayer project).

In the US patents are way to stupid. Amazon recently got a patent on his recommendation system, which is getting many other e-sellers in big trouble. Read the news here (or in german) and by the way they already have a patent on ”One-Click-Buy”.
