Cake console

February 8th, 2008 by teemow

To ease the use of the cake command I wrote a small and simple bash_completion script.

If you are using Linux is probably only an apt command away to have the bash completion. On Ubuntu it is even included in the standard desktop. On a mac you have to install the bash completion via mac ports or fink.

After that just add the content of the cake completion file and add it to .bash_completion in your user directory.

Have fun!

CakeFest

February 6th, 2008 by teemow

I just arrived in Charlotte, SC and wait for my connection flight to Orlando, FL.

CakeFest will be the first official CakePHP gathering and I’m looking forward to meet all those stranger I only know from the mailing list and their blogs. The 1.2 release is still not finished but loads of things have changed. I’m desperate to hear how such things as schema, shells, fixtures, behaviors (especially bindable and translate) look from their developers sight. We’ve used most of the things already in CakePHP 1.1 at ormigo. But we just hacked those stuff into the 1.1 core building our own testsuite, fixtures, migrations, continouus integration and code coverage monitor.

And there are finally tests for the core, which helps debugging and reporting errors a lot.

I also really enjoy the new find notation. It’s much more readable:

$this->find(’all’, array(
‘conditions’ => array(),
‘restrict’ => array(),
‘order’ => ”
);

Now it’s official. You don’t have to wait for the gibbon to have a full ubuntu studio. You can download ubuntu studio now. It’s a full OS as easy to install as ubuntu. Ubuntu studio includes open source software for graphics, audio and video. This is their first shot so be kind. Ubuntu has very good and fast release cycles, so look forward to already get an improved next version in october. Remember this is open source and you are part of it. You find help in the forum and report your bugs in launchpad

Ubuntu mobile

May 6th, 2007 by teemow

After the news that Dell offers Ubuntu desktops and notebooks, there is some more great news about my favorite OS. With the next version 7.10 aka Gutsy Gibbon, there will be a mobile/embedded edition of Ubuntu. The details of this edition will be discussed at UDS in Sevilla starting today. Interesting is that Intel contributes people and hardware to the project.

May 6th, 2007 by teemow

Due to some legally problems with AOL the Gaim team came up with a new name some weeks ago. So Gaim is Pidgin now and there is already a new look and the 2.0.0 Final Version. Good work guys! There is also a new trac for the development.

DevHouse Cologne

April 27th, 2007 by teemow

On Barcamp FFM we came up with the idea of having a coder-only camp. Bumi came up with the wiki yesterday and we already have some people listed. So if you are interested in a full weekend coding session enter your name here.

DevHouse Cologne

The devhouse session is of course inspired by the superhappydevhouse.

Ubuntu - Feisty Fawn

April 20th, 2007 by teemow

Since yesterday the latest version of Ubuntu is released. Ubuntu 7.04 aka the Feisty Fawn comes with the default integration of the network-manager applet, automatic codec download, restricted driver manager, apache 2.2, php 5.2.1 and all the latest in open source software. Ubuntu’s servers and their mirrors had been quite busy yesterday.

With Feisty there is an effort to create a multimedia version of ubuntu called ubuntu studio. The wiki doesn’t have that much information, but if you have a standard feisty installation there are some new packages in your repositories.
The packages ubuntustudio-audio, ubuntustudio-audio-plugins, ubuntustudio-graphics and ubuntustudio-video let you install the multimedia software of your choice. There is also a new low latency kernel. Just install linux-lowlatency, but do not remove your standard linux-generic kernel until you are sure that the new kernel works flawlessly.

Have you seen the LinuxMCE video? This is how your living room entertainment will become with latest linux software. LinuxMCE is also based on ubuntu and pluto.

My test boxes are looking forward to see Gutsy Gibbon soon.

Your video channel

March 2nd, 2007 by teemow

I was sick the last 3 days and it was kind of annoying watching tv, which I did on the first day. On the second day I watched a whole season of my girl-friends grey’s anatomy, which was better than german tv, but far away from interesting. Today I recieved an email from stumbleupon about their new video feature. And this was fun. So if you have a headache, temperature and you can’t read your daily feeds, go and train your stumbleupon video chanel. Be sure to press ‘f’ to see the videos in ‘fullscreen’.
